Workers’ convention of BSP State units of Punjab, Haryana, Himanchal, J&K and Chandigarh concludes successfully in Chandigarh
BSP National President directs to launch agitation to protest hefty hike in petrol prices and inflation in northern states
Addressing workers’ convention of BSP State units of Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Himanchal and J&K held at Chandigarh today, the BSP National President and Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Ms. Mayawati ji called upon her party workers to strengthen the party further and increase its base as well. She said that it was imperative to strengthen the BSP movement at all levels to get rid of poverty, unemployment and inflation.
Speaking at the convention of BSP units of five states attended by senior workers and office bearers, Ms. Mayawati ji said that there was an urgent need to strengthen the BSP movement to fight the anti-people policies of the Congress-led Central Government. Everybody knows that the BSP movement originated to protect the interests of poor, exploited and neglected sections of society. She said that BSP was active at all levels to expose the anti-people and anti-dalit mentality of Congress party and oppose its wrong policies. She pointed out that this party ruled at the Centre and most of the States so far. The BSP opposed BJP and other opposition parties in the same manner.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Ms. Mayawati ji said that the unemployment and inflation were a curse for the country and it were weakening us. She said that Congress and BJP were solely responsible for it, because during their tenures they never made any serious effort to deal with these issues. There were serious allegations against the Governments of these parties ruling in the States of Northern India, besides the Central Government. Now, these opposition parties were hatching conspiracy to divert the minds of the people from these issues. She said that BSP was the only party which survived on the hard earned contributions of its workers and it did not depend on the capitalists like the opposition parties. Therefore, the BSP Government of Uttar Pradesh had been undertaking epoch-making efforts in the interests of exploited, neglected and poor sections of the society and making efforts to improve the living standards of these categories to usher in a social change in the country.
The BSP National President said that since Independence, viz. during the last 63 years, the socio-economic condition of SC/ST, OBC, religious minorities specially Muslims, Sikh, Christians, Buddhists and poor people of upper castes remained pitiable, because Congress and BJP, which ruled at the Centre as well as the States, formulated policies for the welfare of capitalists only. It indicated that the capitalists ruled country as well as States in an indirect manner. Owing to it the rich became richer, while the poor became poorer. This wrong economic policy has damaged the country to a great extent. This was the reason why the BSP was formed. Ever since its inception, the BSP movement had launched struggle against these anti-people policies continuously. There was a need to strengthen it in every nook and corner of the country, specially these northern states. It was a National need.
Ms. Mayawati ji said that BSP was a humanitarian movement with an objective to establish egalitarian society by following the path shown by saints, gurus and great men born in dalit and OBC like Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Chhatrapati Shahu ji Maharaj, Shri Narayana Guru, Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and Manyawar Sri Kanshi Ram ji.
The BSP National President said that all the sections of the society had been badly affected by poverty, unemployment and skyrocketing inflation, but the Congress-led Central Government was not concerned about it and its leaders were indulging in petty politics only, while the BSP Government of Uttar Pradesh had provided relief to the people of the State through its own efforts. Lakhs of temporary and permanent employment opportunities had been provided and the tax rates had been reduced to give some relief to the people from the inflation. The woman heads of 31,00,000 very poor families of Sarvasamaj were being provided an assistance of Rs. 400 p.m. through Uttar Pradesh Mukhyamantri Gharib Arthik Madad Yojana. They have been provided an amount of Rs. 2400 for six months under this scheme.
Ms. Mayawati ji said that the BSP had decided to launch ‘country-wide mass movement’ to oppose the hefty increase in petrol prices effected by Congress-led Central Government. She said that it would be initiated by holding demonstrations at all 72 district HQs of Uttar Pradesh on 31 May 2011. She directed the unit in-charges of northern states to hold demonstration against the anti-people policies of the Central Government in their respective states.
