‘Only a person with qualities of integrity and transparency can be unanimously elected as the President of India’
— Jagdish Gandhi, educationist & former MLA, U.P.

dr-jagdish-gandhiFormer MLA from Uttar Pradesh and renowned educationist Dr Jagdish Gandhi has said that only a person who upholds the Constitution of India and promotes the Indian culture of Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam can be unanimously elected as the President of India. Describing the qualities required to be the President of India in a press note issued today, the former MLA also said that integrity and transparency are the prime and foremost prerequisites for the President of India as his office is the highest constitutional office in India. Since the chair of the President happens to be the supreme constitutional post, it is needed that the next candidate for such chair has already disclosed his assets and not availed any monetary or other benefits from Central Government or any state government for himself or any of his family members and relatives
Dr Gandhi stated that our nation has varied religions that incorporate people of different religions dwelling in it, therefore the person chosen for this highly respected post, the President, must be one who has devoted one’s entire life for sacred works like religious unity and social unity and also promotes religious harmony among all great religions of the globe. Hence, we need that President who has global perception and who can lead the entire humanity to a new era for the safety, integrity and peace in all the nations of the world by perceiving worldwide conundrums. He said that it should be the prime concern while selecting the President that ‘What kind of a person the President should be’ rather than ‘who should be’. Infact, the life of the next President should be an open book who is indulged in religious unity, social upliftment and service to mankind with honesty, transparency and full enthusiasm.
Dr Gandhi further said that the Article 51 of Indian Constitution clearly indicates that the State shall endeavour to promote (a) International peace and security (b) maintain just and honourable relations between nations (c) foster respect for international law and (d) encourage settlement of international disputes by arbitration. Therefore, the future President of India should be such a person who upholds the spirit of Article 51 of Indian Constitution, our great culture and custom ‘Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam’, establishes world unity among all the nations of the world and with honestly and see through endeavour retains the position of India as the ‘Jagat Guru’.
Expressing concern over the state of world today due to the problems of global warming, international terrorism, arms race and stockpiling of nuclear weapons of mass destruction, fear of complete annihilation etc, Dr Gandhi said that any one country can no longer counter these problems alone. Therefore, we need such a President who efforts sincerely to form World Parliament, World Government and World Judiciary having enforceable international law and motivates all the nations to join hands for solving global problems and sorting out various setbacks that whole humanity is facing. We have to find a way to engage all the countries to join hands together in taking effective measures to manage these problems jointly along with other major issues that the whole of humanity is facing.
Dr Gandhi said that President of India cannot ignore the problems of the world. India needs a President who will not over look the problems of the world and focus only on national issues but a President who will lead India to motivate all the nations of the world to work together in solving problems that are of serious concern to the entire humanity. We need a President who can give us a compelling vision for a new future, a vision of better country and a better world which is safer for all the children of the world as well as generations yet-to-be-born.
