The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Ms. Mayawati has directed that special drive be launched for cleanliness, drinking water supply and solid waste management to make them more effective in all the thirteen Nagar Nigam cities and Noida. She said that the cleanliness of these cities be made foolproof, so that citizens could not have to face any difficulty. She also directed District Magistrate to monitor these works on a daily basis and Additional Cabinet Secretary to fortnightly review on first and third Monday of the month at State level.
Mrs. Mayawati directed that the special drive be launched immediately in Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Bareilly, Aligarh, Gorakhpur, Jhasi, Saharanpur and Noida. This special drive would be launched under the directives of District Magistrates at district level. District Magistrates would prepare an action plan and send it to Principal Secretary, Urban Development and Additional Cabinet Secretary by April 26. The District Magistrate would review the progress daily during the drive period. Development Authorities, Nagar Nigam, P.W.D., Irrigation, Energy Departments and Police have been asked to extend full cooperation to the drive.
The Chief Minister has also directed that the works like de-silting of drains/sewers be completed before June 15, 2010. The repairing and other necessary works related to drinking water be completed by May 15 on a priority basis. She said that the garbage of cities should be lifted and dumped daily at the dumping site. She said that encroachment during the cleanliness drive, be removed. She also directed that solid waste management schemes which have been completed be made fully operational. The solid waste management schemes which are under various stages of completion be completed before June 30 next, she added.
The Chief Minister directed that the solid waste management schemes for the Nagar Nigam towns and Noida be made long- term and useful for the people and also economically viable. Cooperation of experts and voluntary organisations be sought and their suggestions be used in the development of infrastructure management system.
The Chief Minister said that during the drive, the fortnightly meeting to be presided over by the Additional Cabinet Secretary would be attended by Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner, Principal Secretaries and Secretaries of Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development, Public Works, Irrigation and Energy Departments with the latest information. Urban Development Department would be the Nodal Department for this drive.
