Posted on 17 July 2018 by admin

dsc_0959Keeping in view the vision of our Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi Ji for
doubling the income of the farmers by the year 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare,
Govt. of India has launched the Kisan Kalyan Abhiyan between 1 June 2018 and 31 July 2018. In this
campaign, the farmers are being provided technical and scientific advisories by the Krishi Vigyan
Kendras (KVKs) on various aspects of improving the productivity of field & horticultural crops and
income as well besides cleanliness awareness programmes and also in improving the health of farm
women and their kids.
This programme on the above aspects was organized by the KVK, ICAR- Indian Institute of
Sugarcane Research, Lucknow on July 17, 2018 at village -Nevajkedha , block-Mohanlal of Lucknow
District. The importance of soil testing for improved field and horticultural crops production, vaccination,
artificial insemination of livestock, micro irrigation, integrated farming system, the importance of
cultivation of pulses and oilseeds etc. , besides a discussion on hygiene and health issues etc. too were
told to the farmers and farm women. The KVK, Lucknow scientists highlighted about the importance of
various schemes of Govt. of India such as Pradhanmantri Fasal Bima Yojna, National Agricultural
Market Scheme (e-NAM), Traditional Agriculture Development Plan, Soil Health CardS, soil
Conservation and Micro Nutrients application for enhanced crops yield, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai
Yojna etc. to the farmers.
Dr. S.N. Singh Principal Scientist and Head, KVK informed the farmers that in today's
agriculture, there is a great significance of soil fertility and its analysis. Due to continuous cultivation of
various crops under intensive cropping systems, there is decline is seen in the fertility of the soil. It is,
therefore, necessary that the crop rotation should be adopted in such a way so that at least one crop of
pulse could be included in the cropping system or alternatively, sowing of Dhaincha crop in the month of
May-June and its turning after 45-50 days of its sowing for improved fertility of soils. The use of
chemical fertilizers can be reduced with enhanced crops yield if the organic matter contents of soil are
enhanced with the organic manure means. Dr. Singh also informed that necessary facilities are available
for soil testing at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lucknow. While taking the soil samples applying the
principles of grid system, one soil sample from each grid (2.5 ha under irrigated condition) as per the
norms is taken for soil analysis. After soil testing, Soil Health Cards are prepared and made available to
the farmers indicating therein the present status of plant nutrients in that particular field, and crop wise
fertilizers are recommended thereafter. Dr. Singh stressed to adopt a seven-point strategy of the Govt. of
India to double the income of the farmers.
On this occasion, Dr. Deepak Rai coordinated the above programme in association with other scientists of
the center, namely Dr. Veenika Singh, Dr. Viveka Nand Singh, and thanked the participating farmers and
farm women. In the above programme, Village Pradhan and about 250 farmers and farm women were
present.
