The Uttar Pradesh government has come up with the proposal to frame rules and regulations for slaughter houses being run in the urban local bodies. For preparing these rules and regulations, a committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Director, Urban Local Bodies, while Nagar Ayukt, Agra of Kanpur and Lucknow, Nagar Nigams, Executive officers of Mau and Ferozabad Nagar Palika Parishads and State Pollution Control Board’s member-secretary have been nominated as members. Dr. Mohd. Aslam Ansari, Veterinary Medical officer, has been named as its member secretary.
The rules to be framed by this committee will be as per the provisions of UP Nagar Palika Act-1916 and the Uttar Pradesh Nagar Nigam Act-1959. The key points that would be followed while drafting the rules are identifying the place of slaughter houses, excluding slaughter houses from populated areas and defining the number of animals to be slaughtered as per the local requirement.
The chairperson of the committee can name and invite an expert if required for discussions in the meeting for drafting the rules. The committee has been asked to send the proposal of the rules to the government within one month, after holding its meeting in next 15 days.
