The students of City Montessori School today learnt the skills of fire extinguishing and evacuation with wit and alertness at the national level ‘Fire and Evacuation Mock Drill’ held today at 11.00 am at the vast premises of CMS Kanpur Road. The event was organized by Alambagh Fire Station under the aegis of Director-General, Civil Defence, New Delhi at CMS Kanpur Road campus. This fire and evacuation drill was successfully concluded under the guidance of Shri Nagendra Prasad Dwivedi, Fire Station Second Officer, Alambagh. It may be mentioned here that CMS Kanpur Road campus has been equipped with various latest fire safety measures since 2007 that include
State-of-the-Art Fire Hydrant, Down Comers, Risers, Sprinklers and Fire Alarm facilities etc., therefore CMS Kanpur Road campus has been specially chosen the venue for the ‘Fire and Evacuation Drill’ consecutively for the second time.
During the ‘Fire and Evacuation Mock Drill’, the students learnt to escape from any eventuality of fire in any simple or multistory building, safeguard one’s life and property and various measures of ‘first aid’ and carrying the fire victims to hospital safely. Apart from it, ways and means to safe one self in case of fires caused by gas cylinder, electricity or others in any building was also demonstrated to children. The demonstration spread the message that we are gifted with air, water and fire by the nature but carelessness in handling it causes destruction. Therefore, safety in it is necessary.
On this occasion, Founder of CMS and renowned educationist, Dr Jagdish Gandhi thanked the fire safety officers heartily and said that the children learnt about safety from fire in this event and elders would also become more cautious. Dr Gandhi emphatically said that children must be taught to safeguard themselves against fire accidents. He hoped that these live demonstrations will be useful to the children throughout their lives.
Mr R. Ghosh, Chief Fire Officer of CMS explained the students about the precautions to be taken when there is any incident of fire. He explained the use of all 3-types of fire extinguishers and the safety procedures. On this occasion, Mr Ghosh said that CMS holds various life skill functions occasionally to create awareness among citizens especially students and youth to let them know fire extinguishing and safety ways. CMS believes the lives of people specially children can be saved by telling them the fire extinguishing and safety measures and for it CMS is committed.
