Shri Rahul Gandhi said that the day the Congress stands up on its feet, parties like SP and BSP will close down. He said that SP and BSP attack the Congress because they know that if this party gains strength, they will have to close their account.

Addressing a rally in Bhognipur on Saturday, he said that normally elections bring about a change but in UP for the past 22 years elections have come and gone but the state is stuck where it was.   “For the past 22 years, leaders have been promising to bring about a change but no change has taken place. “What has changed? Have you got water, electricity? Have your children started going to school? These leaders come, make promises and go back in their luxury cars,” he said.

Shri Gandhi said that when we spoke to the people in village they said that there was no employment in village. We brought MNREGA that gives you 100 days of employment. We did not differentiate on caste basis — everyone was given work provided he had an Indian heart,” he said.   He said that when he spoke to farmers, he complained about the banks shutting its doors on them. They are the ones who give us food to eat. We gave them the loan waiver scheme worth Rs 60,000 crores.

Shri Gandhi said that wherever he traveled, he found people from UP working there. “They said there were no jobs in UP. I dream of job opportunities in UP  and Dr. Manmohan Singh and Sonia ji share this dream. We respect you and the knowledge you have,” he said.

Attacking Mulayam Singh Yadav, Shri Gandhi said that he is now promising free electricity. The people of Amethi told me that there is no electricity but only the bill that comes regularly. Besides, where will he give electricity from? From the skies? There has been no new power plant in the past 22 years and he was chief minister thrice.

Shri Gandhi further criticized Mulayam Singh for not visiting Bundelkhand during drought. “Now he is promising to turn it into Israel. The people there want Bundelkhand and water — not Israel. For five years Mayawati was chief minister but she did not visit   a single village or mingle with the common man,” he said.   Shri Gandhi said that he was in active politics since the past 7 years and he had learnt the maximum from the people. He said that he had studied abroad but the knowledge he had gained from the common people was much more than what the teachers abroad had taught him.

“People says that Rahul Gandhi has gone mad. He does not watch TV, does not give interviews and keeps visiting villages. He is doing natak. If this is natak, I will continue doing it. Mulayam Singh claims to be a leader of Muslims but what has he done for them? We set up Sachchar Committee, sent scholarships but all this did not reach you. When we announced reservation Mulayam Singh criticized it saying it was insufficient,” he said.

Shri Rahul Gandhi further said that the Congress would not compromise with any party– it would compromise only with the people.   He said that UP was being run by and for 10 pr cent people. “We want that the government should work for 100 per cent of the people. I want to take your voice to Delhi and Lucknow — voice that is stuck in villages. A day will come when your voice will echo across the world. You should have faith in yourself that you can change the state because you have the strength,” he said.
