Bhanpur  - Shri Rahul Gandhi said on Sunday that whether the Congress got two seats or 100 seats — the party will not ally with anyone.

“I will stand by you always. I have come to change Uttar Pradesh and whether it takes five years or 20 years, I will not budge till it is done. There are only five countries in the world which are bigger than UP. We will change it together,” he said while addressing meeting in the state.

Mounting a veiled attack on Mulayam Singh Yadav, he said that now that elections are here, he (Mulayam) is saying that he will turn Bundelkhand into Israel.

“Had he gone to Bundelkhand himself , the people there would have told him that they want their Bundelkhand, water, power and development. If this happens, Israel will ask for Bundelkhand. He (Mulayam) also says that he will give free electricity. But for years there has been no new power plant here so where will the electricity come from? Will it come from the skies?” he asked.

He said that elections are here and it is up to the people to decide what they want in UP for the next five years.

Shri Gandhi said that he is in politics since 2004 and he had told the people that if the Congress formed government at the centre, it would be a government for the common man. The government will work for the common man and the poor. Our intentions were clear and we worked from the heart. Dr Manmohan Singh and Mrs Sonia Gandhi worked from the heart.

The opposition did not use it heart and its intentions were not clear either– they made tall promises to win polls and announced that India was shining. It would have been better if they had said that India will shine, instead of India is shining.

He further said that we came to you after forming government and discussed your problems. You told us that you had to migrate to look for jobs so we brought MNREGA which gives you employment at your doorstep. It was your idea and we simply implemented it.

After this, he said, we again spoke to you and learnt about your debt problems and brought the loan wavier package for you.

Shri Gandhi asked the audience if they had seen Mayawati in their midst in the past five years or if Mulayam Singh had held their hands.

“Mayawati now says that this is Congress drama and these schemes will not benefit anyone. Go to Congress ruled states and see the difference these schemes have made to the lives of the people there. Mayawati does not move out of her house and does not know what has changed,’ he said.

He said that when drought struck in Bundelkhand, Mayawati and Mulayam Singh did not go there. “I went and got a financial package worth Rs 8,000 crore but the money was stolen. We sent tractors for farmers but the minister gave it to his children. All the money we send gets stolen,” he said.
