Rahul Gandhi blames rivals for 22 years of misruled in UP

Shri Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday, questioned the achievements of non-Congress parties in Uttar Pradesh in the past five years.

“The Congress, since 2004, has given schemes like MNREGA, loan waiver, Bundelkhand package, weavers’ package, RTI, RTE and now the food security scheme. Tell me what these parties have given you in the same period?” he asked while addressing a series of election rallies in Uttar Pradesh.

Shri Gandhi said that since the past 22 years, UP has seen the same story- the elephant (BSP), then the cycle (SP) and the lotus (BJP) in between.

He said that people cast votes, leaders become chief ministers and forget the public and this chain is being repeated since the past 22 years.

The Congress general secretary said that the centre had been sending maximum funds to UP which was the biggest state and this was the money of its own people. But all the money went waste because the government did not put it to good use.

In the Samajwadi regime, the food grain scam took place and in BSP regime, it was the NRHM scam.

“The elephant in Lucknow eats it all up and his appetite is growing by the day. Lucknow needs a Congress government so that the money we send for you, reaches you in time,” he said. Shri Gandhi said that the Congress had changed states like Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh and it made him angry when he saw Uttar Pradesh running backward instead of going forward.

“Other states have developed because people from UP are working there. Do you not want your own state to develop in a similar manner? Time has now come for a change. You have given 22 years to these parties– give us five now and I promise you we will change the face of UP,” he said.

Shri Gandhi said that if the Congress was voted to power in UP, the responsibility for building the future would lie on the shoulders of the youth.

Shri Gandhi further said that the day Uttar Pradesh untied its hands, that would be the day when things would begin to change.

He said that Mulayam Singh had been the chief minister of UP thrice but each time, his cycle got punctured. “The police stations were ruled by goondas in his regime and that was all you got,’ he said.

He further said that UP had not seen progress because its leaders did not see dreams.

“I dream that people do not die of hunger, do not have to leave their homes for jobs. Why don’t these leaders also dream? He asked and said that in the past 22 years, UP had not got new industries, no power plants and yet these leaders promise electricity in elections. He said that voters should usher in a new future for themselves with the Congress and help UP regain its lost glory.
