Shri Rahul Gandhi said on Saturday that Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati had criticized the Congress decision to give 4.5 per cent sub quota to backward Muslims but both the leaders, themselves, had not done anything for Muslims.   “Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati said that 4.5 per cent was less. Both have been chief ministers more than once — so what was stopping them from giving more reservation to Muslims. Now that congress has done it, they are criticizing us,’ he said.   Shri Gandhi, while addressing rallies in Unnao and Hardoi on Saturday, said that the Congress always made policies that were all-inclusive. “We want to include all sections in progress whereas these parties work for only 10 per cent of the population and exclude 90 per cent of the population which explains why UP has not made required progress in the past 22 years,” he said.
Shri Gandhi said that parties like Samajwadi Party, BJP and BSP change colors in every election.
“In 2009, SP had said that they were against the use of computers and English even though Mulayam Singh’s own son works on computers and talks in English. Now in their manifesto, the SP has decided to distribute free computers. This is election time and they will even agree to change the color of the sky if you want. The Congress does not believe in making scores of promises but we do promise that we will provide a government that works for common man,” he said.   Shri Gandhi further said that for 22 years , there had been a brake on development in UP because leaders come out during elections, give speeches, make promises and then shut their doors on the public after becoming chief minister.   He said that Mayawati and Mulayam Singh do not meet the common man to understand his problems. “They did not go to Bhatta Parsaul, they did not go Bundelkhand. They come to you only during elections and when I reach out to you, they ridicule me. But I will not stop meeting you because I learn a lot from you — something that I do not learn during meetings with top officials in Delhi. I learnt about   your problems from you and we launched MNREGA that gives you employment at your own home and the Food security bill that ensures that no one will go hungry,’ he said.   Shri Gandhi further said that SP, BSP were promising to change Uttar Pradesh but these parties had ruled UP for 22 years. You voted for the cycle and Mulayam Singh punctured your hopes, then you voted for the elephant and he ate up all your money.   Shri Gandhi said that centre had sent money to UP– money for MNREGA, NRHM, Bundelkhand package but none of it reached the people. “We sent Rs 10,000 crore for NRHM but two or three BSP ministers took it all and you do not have adequate medical care for your family,” he stated.   Addressing the women in the meeting, Shri Gandhi said that women work hard and make contribution towards the country’s progress but their voice is not heard. I will not budge from here until these women get a voice, until UP decides to progress and change.
