4-day International Convention on Students’ Quality Control Circles concludes

On the 4th and last day of the four-day International Convention on Students’ Quality Control Circles (ICSQCC-2011) convened by City Montessori School, Kanpur Road campus, the quality experts came from across the globe unanimously said that the human race can only excel if the quality concept is brought in education. The fourth and concluding day of the ICSQCC-2011 going on at CMS Kanpur Road auditorium had been very interesting and the quality ‘gurus’ poured out their knowledge and inspired students to imbue them. On the last day of the Convention the students participated in ‘Quality Quiz’ contest to show the advent of quality age through their knowledge and skills. Chief Minister, Mr Mahiepala Herath of Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka handed over the ICSQCC flag to the representative of Mauritius where the next convention will be convened.
The fourth day opened with the meaningful speech of CMS Founder, Dr Jagdish Gandhi on ‘Meaningful Education’. Dr  Gandhi said that humanity can never be benefitted until we make quality human beings. The ‘quality’ in man inspires him to serve the humanity, in absence of this ‘Quality’, even the most learned of men tend to exploit the humanity. Making himself clear, he said that today, man is engaged in improving the quality of non-living items like TV, fridge, camera, watches, mobile phones etc. but the quality of the man himself in constantly deteriorating. This phenomenon is leading to the increase in
anti-social activities like terrorism, war, theft, murders, kidnappings etc. There is, therefore, an urgent need to develop the concept of quality for the benefit of humanity, he said.
Mr A M M Khairul Bashar, Vice President, Bangladesh Society for TQM, Dhaka said that goal setting and decision making are the keywords of a quality person and to develop quality a person should be gentle and eager. He profusely praised Dr Jagdish Gandhi, renowned educationist and Founder of CMS for instilling quality concept in children. Dr Richard Ennels of UK regarded quality concept as empowerment. He emphasized on the respect for experience, skills and knowledge. Similarly, Dr. Feyza Doyran from Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey said that if we want to change the world first we have to change ourselves. We should learn good traits from others. Her stress was on self-respect and learn from our mistakes instead of fearing from it. Mr Ranjith Goonatilake, a quality expert from Sri Lanka quoted Swami Vivekananda’s quotation that the ‘Education should be life building’.
In the afternoon session, students from various countries participated eagerly in the Quality Quiz. After the written round, the selected teams displayed their deep knowledge and awareness by answering questions with electrifying speed in the oral quiz. The questions ranged form various aspects of quality control and quality management to cover a variety of subjects.
In the closing ceremony of the convention, the Principal of CMS Kanpur Road, Dr (Mrs) Vineeta Kamran said that quality breathes new life in every product and activity. Nature itself teaches us the value of quality. If water or air is polluted, there is danger of death, desire and extinction of species. Students must be trained to become Total Quality Persons since the very beginning. She was happy that quality Gurus and experts as well as quality enthusiasts and students of 11 counties of the world have added a new chapter in the field of quality control by their active participation and creative ideas in this convention.
This evening, a grand closing and prize distribution ceremony was organized at CMS Kanpur Road auditorium. The winners of various contests were specially honoured and awarded prizes at the closing ceremony. Sharing their experiences at the closing function, students of various countries said that the quality initiative which they had imbibed at this convention will continue to inspire them throughout life and take them towards excellence in all things. The love and affection of the CMS family will remain as sweet memories in their hearts. The lesson of peace and unity learnt here will be a gift for them when they return to their respective country. At the end of the ceremony, the CMS Founder-Director and renowned educationist, Dr (Mrs) Bharti Gandhi thanked all the respected guests, teachers, educationists, quality experts and students whose total involvement had contributed to the outstanding success of the Quality Control Convention.
qc-closingChief Public Relations Officer of CMS, Mr Hari Om Sharma said that in the 4-day International Convention on Students’ Quality Control Circles (ICSQCC-2011), around 1800 students and quality gurus from 11 countries of the world viz Bangladesh, Cyprus, Mauritius, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Turkey, USA, UK and India  participated. During the past four days, these students from various countries displayed their excellent skills through quiz, poster and slogan writing, skit and case study presentation and have spread the quality movement in all direction. Mr Sharma expressed his firm belief that these students will further spread the feelings of quality in their countries when they go back so that the whole earth may be illumined with the flame of quality and progress of humanity may appear in result.
