Grand closing of International Geography Olympiad ‘Geofest International-2011′

prize-winner_geofest-01The four-day International Geography Olympiad ‘Geofest International-2011′ organized by City Montessori School, Mahanagar (Campus III) came to a conclusion with a grand closing ceremony held here at CMS Kanpur Road auditorium this evening. On this occasion, the Head of CMS Quality Assurance and Innovation Department (QAID), Ms Susmita Basu honoured the prize winners with shields, medals and certificates amid a glittering closing ceremony replete with educational-cultural items that delighted the viewers. The Overall Championship of Geofest International-2011 was bagged by Sunbeam School, Lahartara, Varanasi in both junior and senior sections and they received the trophies amidst thunderous clapping and cheering.
Addressing the young geographers of India and abroad at the closing and prize distribution ceremony, Ms Susmita Basu congratulated the participants and said that its not important whether they win or lose, but what is important is that they learned something which will further be utilized for the cause of humanity. The Olympiad has established an environment of friendship and brotherhood among nations which lays the foundation of World Unity and World Peace. She laid stress on that the olympiad will make the children committed to bring about changes in the world for a better environment with less pollution and more harmony with nature.
At the Prize Distribution and Closing Ceremony of Geofest, students of CMS presented several colourful educational-cultural items in honour of participating teams and their team leaders. Students from various countries were overwhelmed at receiving such honour and with their warm welcome in Indian style and the whole auditorium resounded with clappings. The programme began with ‘All Religion and World Peace Prayer’. A number of beautiful dances highlighted the spirit of unity in diversity in India. The participants from Mauritius, Bulgaria, Nepal and various states of India enjoyed Indian songs and music to the fullest.
prize-winner_geofest-11On this occasion, the Convener of Geofest International-2011 and Principal of CMS Mahanagar, Mrs. Prema Subramanium said that Geofest-2011 has brought to light several hidden talents of students. It has also ignited the flame of World Unity in the hearts of students. Mrs. Subramanium said that the enormous talent and enthusiasm of students makes us confident that these students will carve a new history for all mankind and realize the dream of a clean and green earth. The CMS Founder and renowned educationist, Dr Jagdish Gandhi said that we should remove all differences from our hearts for the human race is but one family. The time has come to launch a movement for environmental protection and presentation of greenery in the world. He praised the students for actively discussing problems like global warming, depletion of ozone layer, climate change, melting of glaciers etc. which pose a real challenge to all mankind.
Chief Public Relations Officer of CMS, Mr Hari Om Sharma informed that on the fourth and final day of Geofest International-2011, the final round of Quiz Contest was held in the afternoon session. After the written round, 10 teams were selected for the final Quiz. Students answered the questions put up by the quiz master with great alacrity and displayed indepth knowledge of the subject. In between, the atmosphere livened up further with music and songs, clapping and tap tapping to the beat of popular numbers. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience combining learning with pleasure. Earlier, the final round of the National Geography Olympiad being organized in which the creme de la creme of students from top schools of various states of India participated. Before this, during three written rounds, the students were selected for the finals. The 3 best students selected after the tough final round will get an opportunity to participate in the Mega Final Round in the year 2012 together with top 3 winners of National Geography Olympiad 2012.
Mr Sharma informed that in this 4-day long International Geography Olympiad, approximately 500 students from Mauritius, Bulgaria, Nepal and various states of India tested their skills in Create Your Taste, Geotoon, Model Display, Geoquiz, Geotech, Geotalk and Voice and Vision etc. to prove themselves over others. He said that though this international event concluded today but the light of ‘Green Revolution’ and ‘World Unity’ lit by it will keep on spreading throughout the world.
