BSP supports Anna Hazare on issue of corruption

The National President of Bahujan Samaj Party and Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Ms. Mayawati ji said that her party and state government was completely against corruption and criminalisation of politics from the very beginning. Referring to the crusade against corruption by Mr. Anna Hazare, she said that her party and government fully support Mr. Anna Hazare on this issue.

BSP National President said that there were differences between Congress led UPA Government at the centre and office bearers of civil society on some issues regarding Lokpal Bill presented in parliament by the Central Government to prevent corruption. She suggested that consent should be drawn on this issue by both the parties, so that law could be made removing the differences and corruption could be prevented.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister said the manner in which Mr. Anna Hazare and his supporters were taken into custody yesterday was against the principal of democracy. She said that BSP welcomed all those organisations including Mr. Anna Hazare and his organisation which were raising their voice against corruption and criminalisation of politics.

The National President said that BSP since its inception had been raising voice against corruption and criminalisation of politics. She said that if the previous governments had curbed corruption and put a check on criminalisation of politics, then there wasn’t any need to form BSP.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister ji said that BSP was the only party which sent its own MPs, legislators, ministers and senior office bearers behind bars on the violation of law. She said that MP Mr. Umakant Yadav was arrested from her residence. Minister Mr. Anand Sen was asked to submit his resignation when his name figured in a murder case. Likewise, action was taken against Mr. Ashok Kumar Dohre and Mr. Ram Mohan Garg, who enjoyed status of a minister. Immediate action was taken against Mr. Bhagwan Sharma alias Guddu and Mr. Shekhar Tiwari. She said that BSP initiated tough action against its ministers on charges of corruption and demanded their resignation without and delay if they were found embroiled in corruption. She said that her party took tough decision in the cases of corruption, law and order and also in the cases related with CAG report on the basis of merits and demerits.

The BSP National President said that taking the death of a doctor in jail premises seriously, her government decided to recommend CBI inquiry as per the wishes of the family members of the deceased. Likewise, she said, CBI inquiry was also recommended to investigate the murders of two doctors and to investigate financial irregularities committed in the office of CMO, Family Welfare, Lucknow, without any hitch. Taking the complaints of corruption committed in the NRHM programme seriously, decision was taken to get the audit done by CAG.
