CMS students enthusiastically come forward to participate in ‘Global Vote-2011′ organized to safeguard rights of the children

Students of City Montessori School aged between 10 to 17, enthusiastically participated in the ‘Global Vote - 2011′ held to safeguard the future and rights of more than 2 billion children of the world. Under this voting process students voted to select candidate for ‘World’s Children’s Prize for the Rights of the Child’ from amongst 3 candidates. Mr Hari Om Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of CMS informed. Mr Sharma informed that the CMS students have been participating in Global Vote for the past many years.

global_voteThis year’s three finalists for the World’s Children’s Prize for the Rights of the Child (WCPRC), are : (1) Cecilia Flores-Oebanda, Philippines, for her struggle against child labour and trafficking, and her support for girls who have been sex slaves  (2) Monira Rahman, Bangladesh, for her fight for those – mainly girls – who have been attacked with acid or petrol and had their appearances ruined. (3) Murhabazi Namegabe, Congo, for his work to free children who have been forced to become child soldiers and sex slaves. The patrons of the WCPRC include World renowned personalities viz Queen Silvia of Sweden and Nelson Mandela etc. are the patrons of the WCPRC

Students of 53,500 schools of 101 countries are participating in the global voting. This year’s prize ceremony will be held on 28 April 2011 at Gripsholm Castle in Mariefield, where the Queen of Sweden, Her Majesty Queen Silvia will give away the prizes before the chidren arrived from different parts of the world.

The WCPRC empowers children and young people all over the world so that they can make their voices heard and demand respect for their rights in accordance with the UN Child Convention. The WCPRC has quickly grown into the world’s largest annual educational initiative for children on rights and democracy. As part of this process, the children award the world’s most respected prizes for outstanding contributions to the rights of the child.
