DG, ICAR to inaugurate Media Resource Centre/CISH Phone-in-Help line

Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture, Lucknow has been serving farmers, entrepreneurs, exporters, etc., of the country since its establishment in 1972 through technology development and transfer. In order to render the mechanism of technology transfer more effective, the Institute is now planning an exclusive ‘Media Resource Centre/CISH Phone-in-Help line / Visitor’s room’. The facility will   cater to farmers- scientists interface through a direct dedicated communication channel for availing immediate solutions to the contextual problem to the production of fruit crops. This ‘Phone-in-Help line’ facility will be made available to all the users on telephone No. 0522-2841082 on every Friday of the week from 10.30 AM to 4 PM in an interactive mode.

The objective of creating this service is to provide the end users, comprehensive guidance related to production, protection and post harvest management of subtropical fruits like mango, guava, aonla, bael, papaya, jamun and other less known underutilized fruit crops.

This initiative of the Institute is intended to bridge the gap between scientists and farmers and work together in a participatory approach in order to analyze gaps in technology transfer and address the critical issues for enhancing productivity and quality of subtropical fruits. This facility will be inaugurated by Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Government of India and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi on November 19, 2010 at 8.30 AM.

The Institute has been publishing different scientific/ extension literature on production technologies of fruits like mango, guava, aonla, bael, etc. and now this service will be an effective add-on. The initiative also offers farmers advisory services on specified topics of scientific nursery management, crop production issues, integrated insect pests and disease management, rejuvenation of old and unproductive mango, guava and aonla orchards, meadow orcharding in guava, harvesting, packaging, storage, value addition, food safety, marketing and export of fruits linked through its website: www.cishlko.org.

Farmers, students, nurserymen, government and non-government agencies  and others  concerned are encouraged to visit the Institute for further information and interaction with scientists.
